Tin Plating

Tin is soft, ductile and has a low melting point. Its color is silvery white. A thin film of oxide may give it a yellowish tinge. Highly polished tin has good reflectivity for light and it retains brightness well in indoor and outdoor exposure. Molten tin wets and adheres readily to clean iron, steel, copper and copper- base alloys. It is seldom plated for decorative applications. Tin has excellent solderability and is non-toxic which makes it compatible with foods. It has fair bearing properties. It does not offer the corrosion protection that zinc or cadmium have. It is cathodic to steel.
